Saccharine
By Tom Baker © 2009

It's all been said before
And many more before our time
Have changed the order of the words
Used different phrasings, different rhymes

There's nothing that you haven't heard
And this may sound like a cliché
I may stumble on the words
But there is something I must say

I love you, I do

If I've caught you off your guard
And this sounds a little weird
I seem so bitter and so hard
But like saccharine in beer

If it seems it doesn't fit
I promise it's been done before
This is really nothing new
Though it may seem a little odd

To hear me say
I love you, I do

It's not a perfect analogy
But I will make no apologies
We can't let ourselves atrophy
And decay into apathy

I love you, I do
